Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad
Mumm-ra - Black Hurts Day and the Night Rolls on
Eminem - Relapse
Nirvana - Bleach
Slipknot - All Hope is Gone
The typical elements that album covers usually have is text across the cover stating the band name as well as the album name. Albums usually have a picture of the band, or they're logo taking up the most space on the cover.
This seems very important in the genres of pop Rn'B and alike as the singer or band are usually what sells the album as image is very important in these genres. With the exception of Slipknot whose image is also important to fans because of their masks.
Album covers serve as an advert for the bands as well as showing the bands personality and image through a simple photograph. For example; Rihanna's album cover 'good girl gone bad' shows her on the cover posing in black and white, black stereotypically being bad and white being pure and good shows a transitional state from girl to woman in that she has grown up during the process of the album. Mumm-ra's album showing a cartoon playing the trumpet gives off the idea they are not bothered about image and seem quite 'indie' and indifferent.
